Description of DIVAnd analysis: the computation was done with DIVAnd (Data-Interpolating Variational Analysis in n dimensions), version 2.7.4, using GEBCO 15 sec topography for the spatial connectivity of water masses. The horizontal resolution of the produced DIVAnd maps is 0.01 degrees. Horizontal correlation length is defined seasonally (in meters): 150000 (winter), 100000 (spring), 70000 (summer), 115000 (autumn). Vertical correlation length was optimized and vertically filtered and a seasonally-averaged profile was used (DIVAnd.fitvertlen). Signal-to-noise ratio was fixed to 1 for vertical profiles and 0.1 for time series to account for the redundancy in the time series observations. A logarithmic transformation (DIVAnd.loglin) was applied to the data prior to the analysis. Background field: the vertically-filtered data mean profile is substracted from the data. Detrending of data: no, advection constraint applied: no.

Using griddap to Request Data and Graphs from Gridded Datasets

griddap lets you request a data subset, graph, or map from a gridded dataset (for example, sea surface temperature data from a satellite), via a specially formed URL. griddap uses the OPeNDAP (external link) Data Access Protocol (DAP) (external link) and its projection constraints (external link).

The URL specifies what you want: the dataset, a description of the graph or the subset of the data, and the file type for the response.

griddap request URLs must be in the form
https://coastwatch.pfeg.noaa.gov/erddap/griddap/datasetID.fileType{?query}
For example,

Thus, the query is often a data variable name (e.g., analysed_sst), followed by [(start):stride:(stop)] (or a shorter variation of that) for each of the variable's dimensions (for example, [time][latitude][longitude]).
